Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara, who are partners in real life, have decided to co-star in the movie 'The Island' (original title). Production and distribution company "FilmNation Entertainment" announced.
Directed and written by Pawel Pawlikowski, who won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film (at the time) for Ida. The work is based on a true story, and the genre is said to be a dramatic thriller.
Set in the 1930s, the main characters are an American couple who have turned their backs on civilization and built their own paradise on an uninhabited island. However, the situation changes completely when a millionaire who passes by the island on a yacht makes the two of them lively in the tabloids.
A self-proclaimed countess plans to build and take over a luxury hotel on the island, and comes with two strange lovers. They begin to threaten the paradise they have built, and the battle lines are soon drawn. Psychological warfare ensues, leading to seduction, jealousy, infidelity, betrayal, and even murder. At the same time, nature itself becomes a threat to the islanders...
Fans are cheering for Joaquin and Rooney's reunion, who have shown good chemistry after co-starring in "Her," "Don't Worry," and "Mary Magdalene." In addition, there are voices pointing out that it will be a movie that looks like the lives of the two, saying, "It's like a documentary about their private lives," and "They don't have to act."
Filming is scheduled to take place in 2023.
